The book, Garment-Export Industry of India, based on the research carried out by the author, analyses the performance of the garment export industry a 20-year period (1981-82 to 2000-01) which can be conveniently divided into two sub-periods (1981-82 and 1990-91 and 1991-92 to 2000-01) representing pre and post liberalization periods respectively in the economic history of modern India. The findings of the study indicating a fall in the growth rate of garment export, during the post – liberalization period, put a question mark on the efficacy of the reform measures initiated in India since July 1991. Various suggestions and recommendations offered in the book provide valuable guidance to enable India to reap maximum benefit out of the favourable scenario emerging post-2004 on the textile export front in general and garment export front in particular.
