The book deals with the application of Geographic Information System (GIS) in different areas of developmental planning. It demonstrates the usefulness of GIS technology for planning purpose in diverse applications. The book throws light on the fact that a GIS is not simply a computer system for making maps, although it can create maps at different scales, in different projections and with different colours. A GIS is an analysis tool. The major advantage of a GIS is that it allows to identify the spatial relationship between map features. This edited book is the result of several papers presented at an international workshop organised by SCADA Computer Centre at Patna. The International Development Research Centre, Canada, has supported the project.
