Gitanjali: Song Offerings

Gitanjali was Tagore’s masterpiece which won him a noble prize. It was though written in 1910 after he lost his father, wife, second daughter and youngest son, got first published in 1912. Originally it was written in Bengali. He later translated these verses when he visited England for the third time. Gitanjali, renowned for its lyrical beauty and spiritual poignancy has acquired the status of a great classic. Though all the creative works of Tagore have earned fame for him but his recognition as one of greatest poets chiefly rests with "Gitanjali.
