The present volume is an anthology containing 19 research papers.  Of these 6 belong to the cultural heritage of Kashmir Valley’s people whereas 7 papers to that of Dogra people’s cultural life and remaining 6 however, belong to the culture of entire country. Our of them some research papers have already been presented in the different literary conferences and seminars organized by some universities and literary organizations from time to time in the country and were appreciated by the scholars.  Subsequently, however, such papers were got published by the scholar in different leading journals including Dr. G.B. Palsule felicitation volume No. 6 of C.A.S.S. studies, university of Poona, 1981, The University Reviews of Jammu University.  Dharma marg (English section) of Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth trust and ‘Kashmir today’ of Information department of J&K state etc.  Though the research is a continuous process the author has sincerely tried to throw light on a few author has sincerely tried to throw light on a few aspects of the cultural life of both the regions of J&K state.  He also points out in his some papers towards some of the very important aspects of the cultural as well as historical life of both the regions which really surprisingly are still virgin fields and therefore, they earnestly require a vigilant attention of the scholarly world.  It is however, appreciable on the part of the scholar of this volume who by including these research papers in it at least he has tried to touch such aspects so that the scholars of history and culture may be provoked to pay their heed towards them.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.P. Srivastava

Born in 1962 in Patiala (Punjab) in the family of Scholars and Artists, the author of this book obtained Master’s degree in fine arts in First division and Ph.D. in his field of specialization. Art and Cultural Heritage of Patiala from Rohilkhand University, Bareilly (India). D.Litt work is in progress. His recent publication is Guru Nanak in Indian Painting. He was invited by the International Congress of Asian and African Studies held in September, 1990 in Toronto (Canada) to present a paper on the arts of Patiala. Having recognized his scholastic caliber and achievement, the Royal Asiatic Society of England has elected him a Fellow of the Society. He has been invited by several Universities of America and Europe. Presently, he is associated with the Post Graduate Department of Fine Arts, Government College for Women, Patiala, Punjab, teaching and research. Besides, he specialises in the field of art of architectural photography and that too of the ornaments and miniatures.
