The book is concerned with the world energy scenario and specifically the energy scenario in India. Highlighting the decreasing conventional energy resources even as the need for energy grows, it takes up in-depth the role of the new green energy sources in meeting the future energy needs. It throws light on the ‘net energy’ available from the green energy sources—energy from nuclear fusion, solar electricity, geothermal energy and electricity generation from ocean waves/tides. It analyses the viability or otherwise of electricity generating power plants using different sources of energy, scrutinising factors like cost per unit of the electricity generated, net energy analysis and expenses for producing electricity. It informs that though the green energy sources are termed sources of the future, there are many technological hurdles that stand in the way of their utilisation in a viable manner.
