Awareness about health and fitness is greater now than ever before, and the means to protect them are available everywhere. Healthcare services are one of the essential foundation and support for every health system. It is hoped that the use of this book will enhance the reader’s knowledge about the most important health problems, and the cost-effective interventions to tackle these problems. It will definitely help to improve the ability of health workers to promote health and prevent illness, including proper case management and referrals, and thereby contribute to the attainment of the ultimate goal of “health for all”.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sujata K. Dass

Sujata K. Dass was born in a family of bureaucrats and social workers on July 19, 1965 in Kabul, Afghanistan. She joined Queens College of the City University of the New York for B.S. degree. She joined King College, Lucknow and completed her MBBS in 1988-89 and thereafter, completed her Ph.D. Medicine. She was Clinical Observer/Visiting Fellow in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Institute (Memorial Hospital) of Cornell University, New York during 1991-92. Dr. Sujata was a Research Fellow at The New York Presbyterian Hospital – Medical College of Cornell University, New York. She was appointed Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair Professor at the young Chair Professor at the young age of 36 years. She is a Visiting Faculty/ Fellow at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research, University of Delhi since 1997 and currently working as Research Scientist in the Department of Medicine, V.P,. Chest Institute, University of Delhi. She is an eminent scientist and is recipient of DST Young Scientist Award and Award of Highest Honour of the Soka University, Japan. She has published several research papers in international journals of repute and has authored two books on ‘Food and Nutrition: Concepts and Measurements’ and ‘Community Participation in Health Management.’
