History of Indian Museums

Museums are the repositories of the cultural and natural heritages of any nation. With the establishment of the Asiatic Society in Kolkata in 1784, the germination of Indian museum movement happened. Indian museums have come a long way from being the abode of Muses (Greek Goddess of different branches of knowledge) to a lively socio-cultural organization with the promise of serving society. However, this book, entitled "History of Indian Museums", although brief but informative, narrates the story of the growth and development of Indian museums in various forms till this date, which also includes various aspects such as factors leading to the development of museums, laws enacted at different times in order to protect our natural and cultural properties and biographies of renowned personalities contributing towards our nation-building. This book is an experimental effort to investigate the different aspects of Indian museum movement covering a wide range. This book will prove beneficial to the students, research scholars and the general readers equally.
