Describing the origin and development of Hindi, Urdu and English newspapers and journals published in Bihar, it analyses the role of the middle class in shaping the socio-cultural and political life in the state.
Through the detailed study of the public opinion and public life in Bihar, it discusses at length the beginning of journalism in the state, halting growth of the press between 1878 and 1893, and the genesis of the movement of separation of Bihar from Bengal and the role of the press in it.
