History of Poona and Deccan in a Perspective is an attempt to unfold some of the very genuine history of the sufferings of the peoples of Poona and Deccan since the time of Shiwajee’s grand-father Mallojee Bhonslay (1500-1794 A.D.). The volume divided in twenty chapters further highlights the environs of Poona. Nana Furnawee’ and Bajje Rao (1794-1799 A.D.), Death of Nana, Holkar and Sindia, Traety of Bassein (1800-1816 A.D.), downfall of the Peishwa Battle of Kirkee (1817-1880 A.D.) the Poone and Deccan Press, the Shiwajee Revival, the Deccan and deccanised, Kankanee Brahmins, the Shenwee Brahmins, the Konkanee Mussalmans, the Agricultural and labouring castes, the tribes, allens and Poona Police in very comprehensive manner. The author has striven to make the best use of history, (quoting Largely from Grant Duff,) of ancient Sanskrit traditions and legends, of the memoirs and researches of distinguished writers and has ventured to intersperse incidents and experiences in his own life; thus bringing everything up to date. The names of people and places are herein spelt in accordance with their rendering by Grant Duff and other Anglo-Indians before the Hunterian style was invented. Forced down officials’ throats by official orders, the system has never been popular with the Services, nor has it ever been fully adopted. Wherever Vernacular words or phrases have been used, the meaning or translation follows immediately for the enlightenment of the general reader.
