This book traces the history of Seraikella and Kharsawan states comprising the period from 1620 to 1956. These two Princely States, now forming the Seraikella-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand. Springing from the parent Porahat family, these two Princely States attained independent identity during the British rule. By and large they maintained a friendly relationship with the Imperial power. This is significant in view of the fact that the parent state had assumed a belligerent attitude towards the British rulers. This is a proof of the separate identity assumed by these two states. Besides this political development, an image of the society and the character of the people has also been depicted. The period under review is a turbulent one and makes a highly interesting reading.
