This book narrates the story of the activity of the Christian Missionaries in Manipur and the neightbouring areas in the later half of the 19th Century which resulted in the conversion of a large number of the hill people into Christian faith. There was initially great opposition to proselytisation from the hill people whose customs, habits and animistic practices conflicted with the new religion, the missionaries sought to spread among them. The book vividly describes these early conflicts as well as the final truimph of the efforts of the missions on the basis of the vast original source material available on the subject.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR K.M. Singh

Dr. K.M. singh (b. 1951) passed the M.A. degree examination in English from Banaras Hindu University in 1972, obtaining the first ranki. As a U.G.C. fellow, he conducted research for 3 years at the same University and obtained the Ph.D. degree in 1980 for his thesis A Comparative Study on the Poetic Technique of T.S. Eliot & W. B. Yeats. Dr. Singh is Currently teaching English in D. M. college of Science Government of Manipur.
