History of the Rashtrakutas (Rathodas)

The History of the Rashtrakutas (Rathodas) by Pt. Bisheshwar Nath Reu was first published in 1933 and was at once hailed as a pioneering work. Using incriptional and literary sources, Pt. Reu has discussed at length the controversies about the meaning of the word Rashtrakuta, their origin, their emigration from the north to south, their religion, and identification of the Gahadavalas as a branch of the Rashtrakutas in separate chapters. While doing so, he has taken into account the views of eminent scholars on these problems and has examined them critically. The learned author has also discussed the religion of the Rashtrakutas, the state of science and arts in their time and their glorious achievements. From the account of the Arab writers, it is learnt that the power of the Rashtrakutas had reached its zenith and they were counted among the four principal kings in the world.
