ABOUT THE AUTHOR A.C. Shah
Dr. A.C. Shah worked in Bank of Baroda for three decades and retired as Chairman & Managing Director at the end of February 1993. The period coincided with the sea-change in Indian Banking. For almost two decades, his main task was to translate this change in Bank of Baroda. Dr. Shah holds the Ph.D. degree in Economics from Bombay University. His thesis was on ‘Integrated Scheme of Rural Credit’ which was approved by an acknowledged authority on the Co-operative Movement, Shri Vaikunthbhai L. Mehta. He worked as Research Assistant to Prof. M.L. Dantwala, a well known authority in Agricultural Economics. His advice was widely sought by the Planning Commission, Central and State Governments and World Organizations. Dr. Shah worked closely on many research projects with him. Among other organizations, Dr. Shah was A Member of the supervisory Board of NABARD and Director of Agricultural Finance corporation, set up in late 60s by Commercial Banks. He was a Guest-Faculty of IIM-Ahmedabad, National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), Pune and Bankers Training College of Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai. Dr. Shah has an abiding interest in the rural economy and in rural credit, in particular. The stories he has narrated are only illustrative and based on his personal experience.
