The writings by mathematicians, paediatricians and others cover human growth theories and growth models taking into consideration human growth as a process, the environmental link to growth outcome and human growth as a tool to evaluate different measures of socio-economic life of human society. They present several mathematical models to study human physical growth. With regard to application of human growth theories in different spheres of life, they take up impact of maternal factors and variability on foetal outcomes, evaluation of nutritional status, population variation, relevance of human growth in space science and inheritance pattern of body physique. They include field studies on sections/groups of the population such as the tribals of North-east India with respect to the issue of variability of growth and impact on the riverine set-up, and human physical growth as reflecting the biocultural environment with specific reference to the Maya community of central America.
