Human Rights are of universal importance because these are the same for all regardless of race, colour, sex, language or religion. The book traces not only the historical developments which laid the foundation of contemporary human rights, but also it contains the complete analytical study of the International Bill of Human Rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights; the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the two optional Protocols to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights have also been discussed.

The real value of the book lies in the fact that it contains lucid exposition of the various provisions of the Constitution of India which are aimed at protecting and promoting the Human rights in India. The judicial activism, which had led to the development of“new human rights jurisprudence” in India, has been discussed by analysing the latest judicial decisions. Various aspects of prison justice, human rights and judicial wisdom have been discussed.
