Since the United Nations charter in 1945, lifted the question of Human Rights from the exclusive domain of the state to a subject of international concern, ‘Human Rights’ the very word has become a buzz word of common parlance. In the wake of adoption of Universal Declaration of Human rights (UDHR) it has become the focal point of all conversations policies and programmes at the individual, societal, national and international levels. The present book tries to look into the question of Human Rights from the perspective of human right as a precondition for survival of civilization. Today world, facing the problems of ever increasing weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD’s) terrorism and armed conflicts has reached the verge of extinction by becoming an innocent victim of war and violence. This situation can only be over come by making sincere and serious efforts to protect not only the human rights but by immediately starting to build a culture of peace and harmony.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Amita Agarwal

Dr. Amita Agarwal (b. 1960) has been teaching Political Science at Government College, Ajmer (Rajasthan) India since 1984 and is an Honorary Professor of Human Rights at the Indian Institute of Human Rights, New Delhi. She graduated (Hons.) from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in 1980 and after that completed her M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees from the same University. She also has a Diploma in French Language, Human Resource Development and a second Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. She has published many articles and books and has participated in several conferences at the national and international levels e.g. Mauritius, Norway, Canada, Sweden, Spain etc. Besides guiding several Ph.D. scholars, she is currently post-doctoral research awardee of the GC from March 2002-2005 and is working on her research project at the south Asia studies center, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. She is an active life member of several professional Associations and organizations and at present she is state chancellor of the International Association of Educations for World Peace (IAEWP).
