Ever since the publication of the first edition of Edward Moor’s "The Hindu Pantheon" in 1810 iconography and mythology have been important branches of Indology. In numerous books and articles both received considerable attention in the past. In the course of time several works appeared in which the published material dealing with mythology was summarized in the form of dictionaries.
