This has been a watershed month in the test of Indian democracy. Twenty years hence, the country will witness the culmination of the momentous and epoch-making decision that fired the imagination of the whole country. The events were tumultuous, sometimes bizarre-ideologies were discarded, political equations went haywire, everyone went for the jugular in trying to grab a share of the pie, whether for or against the Nuclear deal with America. Interesting thoughts from varying speakers, notwithstanding their political compulsions were the highlights of the debate that carried the weight of the expectations of the true Indian. The nuclear deal through, now we head towards the final lap of this UPA Govt and thereafter, the Parliamentary elections, which are bound to reverberate with the din that surrounded this decision. The Indian Parliament has endorsed has endorsed the deal. It did not take more than four hours on 01 Aug 2008 for the Board of Governors at International Atomic Energy Agency to clear the India-specific waiver and now the focus shifts to the Nuclear Suppliers Group, which is scheduled to meet in the third week of August 2008. The deal now moves closer to operationalisation.
