I have not been an angry young man; but if I appear an angry adult or old man, an explanation is certainly called for, says the author in the opening chapter. And the book goes on to provide that explanation in ample measure. In the process, it has turned out to be an explosive expose of all that is wrong, bad and ugly about India today. From the flaws in our Constitution to the bankruptcy of our intellectuals, from our ‘culture of lies’ to the cult of violence, from our ‘five-star do-gooders’to our thwarted sexuality, from a series of corruptions scandals to new formed government in the Centre, i.e., political jugglery, every facet of our decaying society has been brilliantly brought out in the book. The wide range and sweep of the book, with a refreshing look back at the Emergency, Mandalisation of India and the burning youth, marks it out as a class apart. Highly satirical at places, interspersed with witty anecdotes about numerous unnamed characters, the book is eminently readable for the serious minded intellectual as well as the common reader interested in the state of the nation. It says loud and clear many things which most of us think and feel in the secret recesses of our minds and hearts but are reluctant or hesitant to talk about. It may irritate, annoy and at times anger the reader, but cannot fail to grip his mind, excite and stimulate him to an unprecedented degree.
