Indian economic Reforms – an assessment is a book based on the presentations made in a seminar held at Andhra University during October 1999. The authors were subsequently requested to revise and update the papers based on the discussions held at the seminar and to capture the developments both on policy and data. Therefore the book presents an assessment of the Indian economic reforms largely for the first decade. Analysis of economic reforms was carried out both at the macro level and in relation to specific sectors. Macro assessment of the new economic policies was carried out from the viewpoint of fiscal reforms, labour and employment policies, regional imbalances and the convergence of Indian states. Assessment of the policies relating to human development and environment has been carried out. Besides, policies relating to both agriculture and industry have also been analysed in the book. The critical aspect of Indian economic reform i.e., trade and investment issue has been discussed in the volume. This book therefore presents an assessment of Indian economic reform in terms of both macro and micro perceptions.
