Indian Interiors leads you closer and deeper into the heart of India. From a Buddhist home in the icy trans-Himalayan fastnesses of Ladakh to life on the boats of Kashmir and the backwaters of Kerala, from the splendour of maharajas palaces to the painted œhavelis of medieval merchant barons in Gujarat and to mud huts in the Thar desert, it takes you on an intimate tour of India's architecture, lifestyles and living traditions. But Indian Interiors also takes a lingering look at the exuberant modernism and unrestrained fantasy of contemporary Indians. It penetrates the exclusive residence that Le Corbusier designed for a family of textile magnates in Ahmedabad, the home of a French embroidery designer in Madras and the Los Angeles-style beachside villa of a Bollywood film star. Lovingly photographed and carefully researched, this volume presents a unique view of unique view of a unique country.
