The objective of the book “Indian Judiciary and Good Governance” is to do analytical and critical analysis of the position of Indian Judiciary. The term “judicial governance” in itself is subject to challenges as the judiciary is not supposed to be involved in ‘governance’. However, firstly, the efforts of the Indian judiciary to infuse accountability in the functioning of government institutions, and the growth and development of human rights jurisprudence have demonstrated the central importance of judicial governance. Secondly, the judiciary is endowed with the additional responsibility of safeguarding the rule of law, whenever the other limbs fail to perform their function judicially, according to the spirit of the Constitution. Thirdly, the judicial system plays an important role in the development of the market economies…countries that have seen incomes stagnate and poverty persists. Lastly, in 11th Five Year Plan the approach changed. All that it states is: “Quick and inexpensive dispensation of justice is an aspect of good governance which is of fundamental importance in a successful civil society.
