In the contemporary Indian society, Muslims are facing several problems. They are at the crossroads from where they find difficulties in choosing the right path to move. In the present volume, an attempt has been made to remove the stereotype images and unfounded assumptions cropped up both in media as well as in intellectual disciplines. In the sociological literature, they are still the subject of speculations and predictions. Even in empirical studies, alien theoretical models are frequently used to understand and explain their social behaviour, institutional structure and civilization ethos. The Islamic values and institutions are not seen in wholistic framework but in a mutilated form. As a result, Islam has become most misunderstood and misinterpreted religion and community. This volume addresses to these problems and also tries to bring these issues in true perspective which may be helpful in drawing out the policies for the development of Indian Muslims. Academics, activists, administrators, policy makers, social workers and general readers may find this book useful in understanding and dealing with the socio-economic and cultural problems of the Indian Muslims.
