Indian Ocean is the focus area of this work. Only four subjects are selected for the bibliographical annotation: geopolitics; regional economics; urbanisation; and regional planning. These subjects constitute the Centre’s research areas. The Indian Ocean Region (IOR) for the purpose of the book is broadly classified into four sub-regions: Southern and Eastern Africa, including the Horn of Africa; West Asia, which includes Egypt, countries located in and around the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf; South Asia; and Southeast Asia and Australia. The book is divided into two sections. Section one compiles books and section two periodicals. Entries are subject-wise and under each subject listing is author alphabatical. Section two on periodical literature is divided into four sub-regions and in each region entries are arranged subject-wise and listed authorwise. Total number of entries include 752. An author index is provided at the end of the book. Periodical literature in section two pertains to the 1990-95 period. Leading journals on the subjects and regions have been consulted.
