For this book the author had to work in prominent Delhi Libraries, National Library Calcutta, Bankipur Library, Patna and Hamidia Library, Bhopal, and he is thankful to the Librarians of those libraries. The author admits that while doing his research and he came across Textiles in the 17th Century, Such works as alijah excited his curiosity. Then he went through numerous book of English Factories in India which are a detailed record of Indian Textiles. No person has consulted more detailed account of these records. The author consulted all the books on the subject published by Tamil Nadu Government which are full of valuable information on the subject. All his papers and monographs and articles were published in Panjab University Research Bulletins for which his thanks are due to the Chief Editors Prof. Motilal Raina and Prof. Nirmal Mukarji. The author wrote this book as the Fellow of Indian Historical Research for which he is very grateful to Prof. Irfan Habib whose illustrous father, late Prof. Habib was his co-examiner with Sir Jadu Nath Sarkar in his Ph.D. for the book Crime and Punishment in Mughal India. Prof. Irfan Habib was extremely helpful to him. He read his paper on the Andhra Textiles (Textiles in the Coromandal Coast at Tirupati under the Chairmanship of late Prof. R.C. Majumdar which was admired by all.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Satya Prakash Sangar
Satya Prakash Sangar - Dr. Sangar was born on 8th April 1917 at Mainpuri (U.P.). He received early education at his village school MORON (Phillaur Tehshil) in Jullandar district. His earlier education was in Urdu, Persian, and later in Hindi and Sanskrit. He was declared first in B.A. Hons. School in History and M.A. Hons. School in History in Panjab University Lahore and was awarded scholarship. He started teaching History after M.A. and taught in Doaba College Jallandar, F.C. College for Women, Lahore and D.A.V. College Lahore. After Partition he joined M.P. Provincial Education Service and was District Inspector of School in M.P. and later Director of Education and Secretary Education in Bhopal State when it was Chief Commissioner's State. Then he was in Govt. College Bhopal for a number of years and then joined Ujjain University as Professor of History. From there, he went to Panjab University, Chandigarh, form where he retired in 1977. He get Gold Medal for his essay in History. He was awarded Ph.D. from Poona University, where his examiners were Sir Jadu Nath Sarkar and Prof. Mohd. Habib. He published more than two dozen books in Hindi and five books in Urdu besides 100 articles and monographs in English. Dr. Sangar is an author of English, Hindi and Urdu and editor of journals in these languages. His books have been translated in Russian and Bulgarian Languages and in many Indian ones.
