This book attempts to lay bare the areas of new security threat to India and its plans and strategy to cope those threats. While doing so, it will also explain and analyse the areas of continuity and change. New dimensions of India’s National Security that emerged in the 1990’s and the evolving challenges and opportunities as they unfolded immediately after the end of the Cold War has been give special attention with the focus of the study. India’s security, like that of other states’, after the Cold War has elements of the past. However, new challenges and opportunities have emerged with serious implications for India’s national security. For examples, Nuclear India has substantially different military capacity against the enemy national state but it is unable to find concrete solution to increasing Naxal militancy in the rural side and frequent terrorist attacks on civil population and civilian establishment in urban areas.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Birendra Kumar Chaudhary
Dr. Birendra Kumar Chaudhary was born on February 11, 1965 at village Belam in the district of Madhubani in Bihar. His father, the late Pandit Shri Anant Chaudhary was a famous Sanskrit scholar and his mother, the late Smt. Buchani Chaudhary was a very religious woman. Dr. Chaudhary imbibed a deep sense of culture and yearning for education from his parents. Dr. Chaudhary completed his education till graduation from his village. He completed his matriculation at the Amarnath High School, Shankarpur in the district of Madhubani. He then went on to complete his intermediate and graduation from Ramakrishna College, Madhubani. Dr. Chaudhary joined Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi for his higher education and he completed his MA. M. Phil and Ph.D. from JNU. He did M.A. in International Relations. The focus of his research during these years has been in the field of international relations and national security. He did his M.Phil and PhD under the able guidance of Prof Kanti Bajpai. Dr. Chaudhary has always excelled in his studies, having attained a first class in all examinations. Dr. Chaudhary has been working in the field of electronic media for the past seven years. Right now, he is working for the English news channel Times Now. Prior to this, he worked with the popular Hindi news channel Aaj Tak. He was also deeply involved in the editorial team of popuplar programmes on the Aaj Tak Channel such as ‘Seedhi Baat’. He started his career at prestigious production houses including United Television (UTV) and Infotainment Television (ITV). In the course of his work there, he had a hand in producing programmes for Doordarshan, BBC, and Channel News Asia. The Hindi newspaper Jansatta published Dr. Chaudhary’s views on several occasions. He has been fortunate to work with such media personalities such as Mr. Karan Thapar, Mr. Prabhu Chawla and Mr. Arnab Goswami.
