This book on "Indigenous Knowledge" is based on the proceedings of the National Seminar on "Need for Recognizing, Rewarding and Documenting the Indigenous Knowledge of Tribals", which was held in March 03 in the Dept. of Botany, Dr. H.S. Gour and V.V. Sagar. Over 100 scientists have participated in this seminar. The present volume covered a much wider area i.e., of medicinal plants and indigenous knowledge of tribals based on in day to day working of life, as well as on medicinal utility of plants. This national seminar of as a first case of its kind in India and will attract the attention of all persons concerning the academic communities, policy makers and administrator to preserve and document the IK of tribals before it is lost for ever. We often talk regarding conservation of flora and fauna and suggest strategies for their preservation but we never thought on preservation of IK, which the tribal are possessing. Dr. T.R. Sahu, Ph.D., D.Sc. (Hon. Con.), F.B.S., F.I.A.T., F.E.S., Professor and Head, Department of Botany, Dr. H.S. Gour Vishwavidayalaya, Sagar (M.P.), India, has a brilliant academic carrier. He is a recipient of dr. Radha Krishnan Samman of Uccha Shiksha Anudan Ayog and also recipient of Prof. Y.D. Tiagi award of I.A.A.T. He is an expert member of Biodiversity Board of Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Sahu has published over 100 research papers and review articles in repute Journals. He has completed several research projects funded by B.S.I., C.S.I.R., M.o.E.F. He is a coordinator of COSIST (ASIST) Project of UGC. Presently, he is Secretary of All Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy (IAAT), President of Botanical Society, Dr. H.S. Gour University, Fellow member of Indian Botanical society and Society of Ethnobotanists. He is providing consultancy to several organizations such as EPCO, MoEF, SAIL etc. Dr. Sahu is Coordinator of Central Indian Botanic Gardens to implement the International Agenda of BGCI, besides, engaged in developing and maintaining University Botanic Gardens and actively involved in conservational activities of IUCN, BGCI.
