In the present study an humble attempt is made to evaluate the performance of development banks in general and the IDBI in particular with special reference to Eastern India, which, in spite of her vast natural resources, continues to be one of the most economically backward regions of the country. The observations and suggestions made by the authors of this study will be of immense help to those who are interested or engaged in the field of industrial finance in the process of policy formation, decision making and implementation of financing schemes at various levels.
