In a growing and labour-abundant economy like India, industrial relations have special significance, particularly in public sector enterprises which play a dominant role in the industrial economy. A public sector enterprise, being under the ownership and control of the Government, is expected to function in an ideal manner not only in terms of better management but also in maintaining cordial relations among the various parties involved in its working. Harmonious and constructive industrial relations are essential for promoting the productivity of the enterprises, thereby contributing to the accelerated growth of the nation’s economy. Dr. K.K. Jacob is Selection Grade Lecturer in the Postgraduate Department of Commerce in St. Aloysius’ College, Edathua, Alappuzha, Kerala. He secured his M.Com., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of kerala. He has more than 20 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
