Beginning with an account of the socio-cultural life of the early Mizo society, this volume is concerned with Mizo fiction in the periods before and after the introduction of Christianity in Mizoram by the British. It deals with Christian influences on present-day Mizo fiction. It argues that the advent of Christianity affected the people’s perception of the world and also effected changes in different aspects of their life. It studies Christianity’s impact on culture, politics, society, medicine, literature and education and the changes as reflected in Mizo novels. It points out the changes at different levels, such as the Mizo people discarding their local customs, rituals and fear of evil spirits and even effecting changes in the way they celebrate festivals.
