Informal Sector is gaining much importance in the current economic scenario, especially, in the context of the developing and the third world economies. The book makes an in-depth study of the conditions of workers in this segment. The study is not only centered in India but it also takes into account other countries such as Brazil, China, Columbia, Kenya, South Africa etc. It highlights the growing menace faced by the working poor in this sector for a decent life. The truth is the grim picture of a sordid reality with virtually no social security and a deprived sub-standard livelihood. This book is a concerted effort to analyze the effects of globalization on this sector. The impact of globalization and technological advances on the integration of informal sector into global economy, the role of market places and their participants as an important informal sector activity, the role of Non Governmental Organizations in facilitating finance, marketing and other supportive services for the growth of informal sector are also spelled out in detail, citing examples from different Asian, African and Latin American countries.
