The work is the outcome of filed research among the tribal women labourers who work in the construction industry. The work is done among the Bhil women of Rajasthan. The Bhils are mainly cultivators but their ecological condition does not make them satisfied with their production or to meet their hunger throughout the year. In this situation they go in search of other occupations to substantiate their economy. With the adent of industrialization and urbanization generally other avenues of earning are seen to emerge in their life. Some of those are skilled work some are unskilled jobs for those women. A large number of women have been drawn in this occupation as daily wage earners who basically belong to the cultivators, families. However the present volume deals with these women. They are studied in the construction side and also in their homes. Their working condition, wage, their duties, etc. everything is studied in the volume. The author tried to see how and when they become attached with this job, how their employers, supervisors, collegues behave with them, how they are exploited, what is their position in their families, village and the society. Lastly some remedial measures are suggested for the construction labourers in this book which will be helpful for the planners and the local administrators to chalk out any constructive measure for the welfare of these tribal women working in the unorganized sector.
