The present work is a comparative study of different cultures in their historical perspective with special reference to Islam and it’s contribution to world-culture. The style of the book is literary but the approach is analytical and convincing. The journalist in the literary personality of the writer has ensured objectivity which is otherwise difficult to maintain in such work as the present one; it is a unique compendium of fact and fiction, past and present, history and anti-history. The book is like a time machine taking its readers back into the ancient Babylonian, Egyptian and Sumerian culture with a return journey to the 21st Century, rolling out like a panorama such events as the contrivance of the Samiri, the expedition of a Yemenite ruler into Gujrat and Sind, the mysteries of Harappa and Mohen-Jo Daro, the stories of Rai Laxman Sen of Nadi, Lilavati, the daughter of Bhaskaracharya, the 4th Maratha War, the tragedy of Prince Mohammad Qua Aan, the Iranian twin sisters, Laden and Laleh Bijani, Baby 81 and host of other events that left their imprint on the sands of time.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sehba Waheed
Sehba Waheed is the pen-name of Waheed Quraishi, the former Urdu News-caster of All India Radio, New Dehli. He belongs to the avant-garde generation of Urdu writers that came into prominence in the 60s. He is a poet, critic, research scholar and journalist. The first collection of his poems, Tamanna ka Dusra Qadam (that is, the Second Step of Desire) appeared in print in 1970. Credit also goes to him for the first versified Urdu translation of the poem s of the Russian writer, Boris Pasternak. His articles, published in the leading magazines and periodicals of India and Pakistan, are acclaimed for their analytical approach, in-depth study and dispassionate criticism. He seems to believe in treading upon ground generally supposed to be unconventional for Urdu writers. He embarked upon an in-depth study of Indo-Moslem architecture in the 70s. The twelve years of love's labour on the subject culminated into a comprehensive work on pre-Mughal Moslem architecture in India which was published in two volumes in 1995 by the Delhi Urdu Academy.
