Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre, considered to be one of the most famous and most loved British novels ever written, was first published in 1847.  It is a novel of intense power and intrigue and has dazzled generations of readers with its depiction of a child’s emotions and a woman’s quest for freedom, love and dignity.  The novel gives a first person account of a plain-looking, but intelligent and strong orphan girl who grows up in the home of her cruel aunt and at a harsh charity school.  But despite all the miserable conditions that Jane Eyre has to face in her growing-up years, she becomes an independent and spirited survivor who knows her worth and is not willing to sacrifice her dignity and values even for most true love and great wealth.
