Nehru was undoubtedly the architect of India’s Foreign Policy. The heavy burden and responsibility for the formulation of India’s Foreign Policy fell on his shoulders who for seventeen years remained the main spokesman of India’s Foreign Policy. He declared a policy of secularism at home for securing economic stability and industrial progress and of non-alignment, of friendship with all, malice towards none, of unstinted support to colonial country’s freedom and fight against racial discrimination abroad. After Nehru’s death no leader of his stature appeared on the scene and our foreign policy became incoherent and weak and it continues to be so even today. The papers presented here contain detailed critical analysis of Nehru’s Foreign Policy and its relevance today.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Taufiq A Nizami
Prof. Taufiq A. Nizami passed M.A. in Political Science in 1965 and was awarded the university Gold Medal for Standing First. He received his Ph.D. in international Affairs from the Aligarh Muslim University, where he is currently serving as professor, department of Political Science and direcxtor, centre for Nehru Studies. He is the Editor of The Resurging India a bi-annual journal of the Centre. He was also the Editor of Indian Journal of Politics for several years. He was Visiting Post-Doctoral fellow at the Instritute of International Relations, university of South Carolina, Columbia (1971-73) USA. He represented India at several International seminars and conferences in U.S.A. and Africa. He was invited by the university of Dares-Sallam, Tanzania to teach International Affiars (1977-81). He is the author of Muslim Political Thought and Activity in India, The Communist Party and India's Foreign policy, He published two volumes (Ed.) on Africa. One of them was on Tanzania, another book on Nehru 'The Architect of Modern India. Also Edited Nehru's World View 'Internationalism vs Nationalism and Jawaharlal Nehru and Modern India. He is also the editor of 'A Special Number on KOSOVO: A Cold war Tragedy, Indian Journal of Politics, Vol. XXXIV, (Nos. 1-2) January-June 2000 and A Special Number on Jawaharlal Nehru, Indian Journal of Politics, Vol. XXXVII (Nos. 1-2) January-June 2003. Prof. Nizami was honoured by inclusion of is biographical sketch in the 5th edition of Men of Achievement published by International biographical Centre, Cambridge, England and also in the 8th Edition of Who's in Word, Marquis Publication, U.S.A.
