This work on Kanada’s doctrine of the categories or the Padarthas is an attempt to bring out the sense of the sutras of Kanadas’s as they read to us in the twentieth century and on the background of a fairly close study of Western Philosophy through its epoch making thinkers of the present times. The present book is divided into 12 chapters.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Veena S Gajendragadkar
Ms. Veena S Gajendragadkar the author of the present work, is a well-known Professor of Philosophy of Siddharth College of Arts and Science in Bombay University. she had a brilliant academic career as a student and was the recepient of the Chancellor's Gold Medal at the M.A. examination. She has played a constructive role as the Chairman of the Board of Studies in Philosophy in Bombay University and introduced changes in the syllabi to inculcate a study of specific works in Indian as in western Philosophy. The present work bears the stamp of an analytic mind inclined towards a study of the original texts in philosophy, Western and Indian. The Doctrine of the Padarthas of Kanada is perhaps the only work on the subject in english. She has contributed articles to research journals and participated in the activities of the Indian Philosophical Congress. She is keenly interested in building an accurate vocabulory in Sanskrit and Indian languages for terms and concepts in Western thinking.
