Of late, the problem of children in prostitution has assumed serious proportions. Identification and enumeration of factors conducive to child prostitution is in a way difficult because it has roots deep in the fabric of society. Ratification of the convention of the rights of the child in 1992 by India signifies the nation’s commitment to the well-being of the children. Creating safe, secure and harmonious environment for children in society is the onerous task of the family, the community, the society and the government. It cannot be denied that for effective implementation of any social legislation, public support is necessary.
