Cathal O Searcaigh has been described by The Irish Times as "one of Ireland’s finest working poets." He has received numerous honors including the Sean O Raiardain Award, The Irish Times Literary Award, and in recognition of this unique contribution to Irish Language Literature, the National University of Ireland presented him with an Honorary Doctorate in Celtic Studies, in 2002.Literary influences on the young O Searcaigh are many but the American eat poets, sixties rock music, and the japanese haiku poets among the strongest. His Irish language writings have been translated into more than a dozen languages. He travels extensively to read his poetry at literary celebrations and festivals, to teach, and to share his love for poetry with others. O Searcaigh lives in Donegal, Ireland but spends five months a year in Kathmandu with his adopted son prem Timalsina and his family.
