Language of Dissent: African Caribbean Canadian Women Writers

Colonial rule in Caribbean islands and Canada subjected the blacks to slavery. Later, when policy of multiculturalism was adopted the blacks were subjected to racial discrimination and racism and were deprived of certain benefits and basic human rights. Even the educated mass of the blacks was denied equal opportunities and amenities, hat to say about undedicated. In short, black were forced to live a subhuman life. Claire Harris, Marlene Nourbese Philip and Bionne Brand –three prominent women writers of American origin –experienced and observed these facts while having colonial education and later expressed their dissent in their literary creations. The present book focuses on their literary works, use of English language by them, the basic themes of their writings and makes an analysis through expert opinions of literary stalwarts.
