ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.M. Gupta
S.M. Gupta is a holder of numerous ecademic degrees and diplomas (M.A. English Literture 1963; P.G. Diploma in Teaching English, CIEFL, 1969; Diploma in Applied Linguistics, Edinburgh, 1972; M.a. Linguistics, University of Hawali, U.S.A., 1978; Ph.D. Linguistics, University of Hawaii, U.S.a., 1981; DDE, IGNOU, 1991; MDE, IGNOU, Completed 1993) and a winner of international scholarships (British Council Scholarship, 1971; East West Centre Scholarship 1978-1981). He currently teaches English Langauge and Literature to the undergraduate and postgraduate students at the P.G. Govt. Arts College, Alwar. He was a visiting professor of English at the University of Aden from 1982 through 1984. He taught Linguistics and Modern English Grammar and Usage at a number of Summer Institutes in English and at the CIEFL conducted PGCTE Contact Programmes. He is a frequent speaker at the national and international conferences in English and Lingusitics. Apart from producing Self Instructional Materials for the Open School, Delhi, he has published a number of papers on Lingusitics, ELT, Anthropology and Communication. His published books are A Discourse Grammar of Hindi and A Carnival for the English Grammarian (co-edited). His future publications would be: Indirect Speech Act, The Teaching of Grammar, Some Phonological Aspects of UP English and The Language of Love.
