Lala Lajpat Rai was born on the 28th January, 1865 at a small village, Dhudike near Jagraon in Ferozepur district of Punjab. He had always felt drawn towards politics. In 1925, he joined the Swaraj Party and became its deputy leader after having been elected in place of Raizada Hans Raj, who resigned his seat in his favour. But he soon left the party on account of differences with Pandit Motilal. The cause was the policy of general walk-outs from the assembly. Lajpat Rai thought this policy to be harmful to the interest of the country. He started his own Independent Congress Party and he was re-elected to the assembly from the constituencies despite Swarajist opposition. The party followed the policy of responsive co-operation. In spite of his differences with the Swarajists he cooperated with the party on questions affecting public interests. He took active part in the deliberations of the debates of the assembly. The book tries to cover the life and works of Lala Lajpat Rai in a Comprehensive way.
