The DAG collection has a number of artworks of historical significance as well as works by unrecognized talents of the last century. ‘Manifestations’ showcases select examples of twentieth century art in India, from within the collection. The work range in their mastery of varied media, techniques and artistic responses to history, place, culture, nature, religion and socio-political conditions. The nature of the collection determines the unfolding of the exhibition. The show does not claim to represent the evolution of the artist’s genre or follow a chronological sequence. It does not intend artistic uniformity or thematic conformity, but rather restricts each artists to a single work and in some cases to a set of four drawings or prints. The exhibition celebrates art as a manifestation of shifting moods, modes and memories in Indian art.
