This manual, based on long experience of the author as teacher and research guide, gives a concise account of different plant pathological techniques required by the research scholars for pursuing their investigation and teachers for purpose of teaching. Topies have been carefully chosen and have been described in separate chapters. Relevant references have been provided while describing the techniques so that users may consult the original text for their clarification. List of references on fungi as well as diseases affecting different crops, water, soil has been given for the benefit of uses.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.B. Chattopadhyay
Professor S.B. Chattopadhyay has a very distinguished academic career. Shortly after passing M.Sc. examination in Botany very creditably from Calcutta University, he completed Ph.D. degree of London University in the imperial college of science and Technology under Professor Brown. On his return, he joined Dept.of Agriculture, Govt. of West Bengal as ahead of Mycology section and established a full fledged laboratory for Plant Pathological studies. He joined newly established University of Kalyanin in 1960 as Professor and Head of the Department of Plant Pathology as well as Dean Faculty of Agriculture. In the University of Kalyani he established a modern plant pathological laboratory for carrying on investigations in different disciplines of plant pathology.Professor Chattopadhyay has been a very successful teacher. He was honored as successful teacher by Calcutta University and Indian Society of Mycology and Plant Pathology. He has guided more than 25 students for Ph.D. degree and published nearly 125 scientific papers in plant pathology. In recent past prof. Chattopadhyay has been awarded honorary D.Sc. degree of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya of which he was founder Vicechancallor for his life long contribution in agriculture.
