Based on the three-and-a-half decades of experience in soil, plant and water analysis, the authors have prepared this user-friendly laboratory manual giving the much needed and simplified version of the analytical procedures. Along with the basic principles of different analytical methods, easy-to-understand basics of instrumentation are also provided for the benefit of all users in general and students in particular. The book has major chapters on simplified methods of soil testing, plant analysis, irrigation water quality assessment and soil-test based fertilizer recommendations, besides a few selected special tests.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR B.S. Dwivedi
Dr. B.S. Dwivedi is Senior Scientist, Division of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, IARI. He has carried out pioneering research on nutrient management in intensive cropping systems. The recommendations emerged out of his work focus on improvement of nutrient use efficiency, minimization of nitrate leaching and restoration of soil fertility. Recipient of several awards, Dr. Dwivedi is a faculty member of PG School, IARI, and presently engaged in research in the area of site-specific integrated nutrient supply systems.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dhyan Singh
Dr. Dhyan Singh is Principal Scientist and Incharge, Centre for Soil-Plant-Water Analysis, Division of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, IARI. He is also the Principal Investigator of ICAR Coordinated Research Project on long Term Fertilizer Experiments (Delhi Centre) since 1993. He has handled a number of research projects relating to soil fertility, fertilizer use and soil test development. He is actively engaged in teaching as a senior faculty member in the discipline of SSAC and guided a large number of M.Sc. and Ph.D. Students. He has 34 years of experience in soil testing service to farmers.

Prof. P.K. Chhonkar, ICAR Emeritus Scientist and former Head & Professor, Division of Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry (SSAC), IARI, New Delhi; past President of the Indian Society of Soil Science, Fellow of the Indian Society of Soil Science and National Academy of the Agricultural Sciences. Recipient of the IARI Best Teacher Award; and Bharat Ratna Dr. C. Subramaniam Outstanding Teacher Award (ICAR) New Delhi. He was a Visiting Scientist, INRA, Paris (France). He was invited to the membership of the prestigious American Association of Advancement of Science (AAAS), Washington DC.
