ABOUT THE AUTHOR T.K. Mallik

T K Mallik obtained M.Tech, in Applied Geology from I.I.T., Kharagpur in 1964 and D.Sc from the University of Calcutta in 1980. He worked in the Deep Sea Drilling Project as a Sedimentologist on board DV Glomar Challenger in the Indian Ocean organized by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, USA. He headed the Marine Science Division of the Centre For Earth Sceince  Studies, Trivandrum. He is the recipient of the National Mineral Award in 1992. He superannuated as Director(Selection Grade), Geological Survey of India. He has been awarded the prestigious Dr J Coggin Brown Memorial (Gold) Medal by the Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of Institute of India for 2005-2006. He has published more than 100 papers and written a book in Bengali entitled Prathamik Palal Vigyan(An Introduction to Sedimentology) published by West Bengal State Book Board.
