Maya comes from America to meet her family in India, specially her mother. With a desire to meet her close friends she throws a party. The novel Maya’s party is about the different characters who are invited to Maya’s party; their suppressed desires, their dreams and frustrations are revealed as Maya either visits them or gives them a call. On the evening of the party as the night grows deeper the voices too grow loud. Laughter fills the room and spills over to the garden. Intoxication replaces fear with courage in many hearts and brings out words that have been suppressed too long; bashfulness gives way to brashness. The party bursts with snappy chats and edgy characters.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Srutimala Duara
Srutimala Duara writes in English as well as in Assamese. Traveling with dreams is her first novel. She is the author of three collections of short stories in English: The Sunset Hour and other stories (1998) Waiting for the last Breath (1999), and the Jhoolan Evening (2000). She is also the author of five Assamese books for children, an English college essay book and a collection of Assamese short stories. She has also contributed to various newspapers and magazines more than 40 articles, 35 short stories and about 20 stories for children. She holds a master’s degree in English and a Ph. D. from Gauhati University and is now working as a lecturer in English. Since 1986 she has been working as a casual announcer in Guwahti Doordarshan Kendra. She has also acted in tele-films, radio plays and on the stage.
