The Indian towns and cities are multi-ethnic. They have attained the pluralistic status mainly through the process of migration. The migration of people from rural to tribal areas to urban areas led to the development of ethnic minorities. When an ethnic group migrates to any so-called urban centre, It may either assimilate into the dominant group or into the existing local population or retain their ethnic identity through the perpetuation of its socio-cultural values. It is seen every where that the total assimilation of an immigrant group into the local population is not possible, rather, the retention of independent ethnic identity is widely prevailed. So fro their better peaceful living the immigrant group has to pass through various social processes, viz. identification, integration, adaptation, adjustment and assimilation. So, in this book an attempt has been made as to how the Rajasthani businessmen (Marwaris) have adjusted themselves with the local Oriya population of Sambalpur town (Orissa). The present book is primarily designs to cater to the requirements of demographers, policy makers, social workers and scholars who are working on migration as a helpful frame of reference. Te book is a revised version of my doctoral research.
