Remote sensing is the collection of information about an object or event without being in physical contact with the object or event. Remote sensing is restricted to methods that record that electromagnetic radiation reflected or radiated from an object, which excludes magnetic and gravity surveys that record force fields. This dictionary contains all important technical terms, with their definitions, explanations, and illustrative materials where apropos. The aim of this dictionary is to help the student or layperson, to understand the complex language and terminology of remote sensing including the scientific and technical literature and data.
