The book aims to bring together the thoughts of ancient as well modern Indian thinkers about the physical, material and consumer world, with special reference to the thoughts of Tagore, Gandhi and Aurobindo on the influence of material world, spiritual world and consumer world.
By developing an idea of justified upbringing of society in terms of proper use of things around us, it talks about different views of the physical and material world, Indian philosophy, spiritual physical world, attitude of different cultural groups of the society towards the world of things, analysis of good and bad effects of consumer world and an ideal humanistic account of man-thing relationship.
