The present publication is a collection of research papers prepared by eminent social scientists. It presents an overview of main facets of Rural Development. The theme of rural development is broad based and it covers many aspects. However, in this volume, the main theme is discussed under four major sections. Section-I on "Rural Development Programmes" analyses and examines different employment generation and anti-poverty programmes such as SEEUY and IRDP. It also concentrates on women employment. Section-II focuses on "Rural Industrialisation". Besides explaining the progress and prospects of rural industries in scheduled areas of Andhra Pradesh, the section examines the factors associated with production and productivity of rural industries. Section III covers the theme of "Agriculture and Rural Development". It analyses the economics of minor irrigation sources and the productivity trends of food grains. It also discusses the land reform measures initiated in India. Section IV discusses different aspects of "Rural Infrastructural Development", such as agricultural credit, rural electrification, rural housing programme and construction industry.
